Job Description:

The AI Startup Xayn develops Europe's leading sovereign Legal AI, which helps legal professionals research legal issues, review, and draft legal documents. The GDPR-compliant Legal AI meets high professional and data protection standards and is certified according to ISO 27001, 9001, 27018, 27017, 42001, and BSI C5. The product, Beck-Noxtua, is based on exclusive data from Germany’s leading legal publisher and the largest business law firm in Germany.

Founded from a 2017 research project at Oxford University and Imperial College London, Berlin-based Legal-Tech company Xayn has extensive experience in GDPR-compliant AI solutions. It has strategic partnerships with leading legal publishers and law firms, and has attracted significant investment in its Series B funding round.

Your Mission

As a Backend Engineer (m/f/d), you will develop Xayn’s privacy-first Legal AI, building scalable, high-performance backend services. You will work closely with AI researchers and engineers to implement cutting-edge features and optimize system performance.

Your Team

The Tech team has around 10 members working remotely or in Berlin. The team includes developers, a technical lead, and external consultants ensuring the platform’s scalability and operation.

Your Hiring Manager

Simon, heading the Tech Team, has over 15 years of software development experience and advocates for product-driven development addressing real-world problems.

Your Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable backend services using Rust, focusing on core APIs for Xayn’s Noxtua platform
• Design, develop, and deploy secure, robust APIs with emphasis on scalability, stability, and security
• Manage Service and Tenant APIs in Python, including tenant creation and rights management
• Integrate AI libraries in Python, supporting AI-related API development
• Optimize algorithms and system performance for speed and reliability
• Contribute to platform development, focusing on security and stability
• Collaborate with AI Engineers, DevOps, and Frontend Developers for seamless integration

Requirements

• EU Working Permission
• Strong proficiency in Rust and Python, with at least 2 years of Rust experience, including API development with Tokio and OpenAPI standards
• Experience in backend development, PostgreSQL, Docker, OAuth, and secure coding practices
• Understanding of system architecture, microservices, Kubernetes, and network fundamentals
• Problem-solving skills, performance optimization, clean code approach
• Experience with test-driven development, type-safe coding, and cross-functional teamwork
• Full-time (32-40h/week), flexible hours
• 26 days vacation plus December 24th & 31st off
• Remote work possible (Germany residency required), other countries upon request
