Freelance Automation Engineer – Biogas & Oil / Gas Plants (TIA Portal / WAGO / CoDeSys)

Location : Bremen, Germany (Hybrid)

Start Date : ASAP

Languages : Fluent German required, English advantageous

Contract Type : Freelance / Independent Contractor

Are you a hands-on Automation Engineer with a passion for process industries and fieldwork? Our client in the biogas and oil / gas sector is seeking a freelancer with solid experience in automation and commissioning for process plants across Europe. You’ll be working remotely with regular travel to project sites to bring automation solutions to life — from concept to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities :

• Commissioning and automation design for biogas and oil & gas plants
• PLC programming and engineering using Siemens TIA Portal , WAGO , and CoDeSys
• Development and modification of control logic and automation concepts
• Integration of fieldbus protocols (e.g., Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet / IP) and motor / drive systems
• Wiring of control panels and on-site component checks — this is a hands-on role!
• Conducting technical acceptance tests , diagnostics, and system optimization
• Producing clear technical documentation , test protocols, and final reports

Your Profile :

• Degree in Electrical Engineering , Automation Technology , or equivalent technical training
• Proven project experience in the biogas or oil & gas industry
• Strong command of TIA Portal , and / or WAGO I / O systems and CoDeSys environments
• Comfortable with on-site work , including commissioning and troubleshooting
• Willingness to travel approximately 16–17 weeks per year , mostly within Europe
• Fluent German is essential; English proficiency for documentation and international communication is a plus

• Freelance status with a valid VAT ID / tax number
• Work permit for Germany or EU residence (mandatory)
• Ability to travel within the EU for commissioning
