For a new site-specific immersive production by Grace Euna Kim, which will premiere at the Haus der Statistik (Berlin) in early September 2021.

Where: Auditions will take place at a public site in Berlin, DE – in accordance with Covid safety protocols

When: INTERVIEWS: until 16 June 2021 / AUDITIONS: 21-23 June 2021 (by invitation only) / FINAL DECISION: 26 June 2021

This call is an invitation to experienced professional performers with backgrounds in dance and dramatic arts, who are currently based in Berlin. We are gathering a broad and diverse collective to engage a dynamic discourse and co-investigation — inclusive of all ages, genders, ethnicities, cultural and political perspectives. We would love to hear from bold performers, who are interested in immersive methods as a means for radical social and political inquiry. While the performance concept is confidential, we can say that the rehearsal process will be an intense experimental, interactive and inventive journey that challenges the limits of representation, and deconstructs psycho-sociopolitical issues and power mechanisms of the body-in-space. Strong improvisational and conceptual thinking are essential. Candidates will be invited for a video interview, followed by a physical experience (audition) in public space — in accordance with Covid safety protocols.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Grace Euna Kim is a performance and visual artist, pedagogue, and researcher who devises immersive performances through a lens of psychoanalytic and critical theory. She has orchestrated experimental encounters in diverse site-specific contexts—from citywide public interventions; to cultural and educational institutions; to the intimacy of a private home. Her work has been presented in the form of exhibitions, lectures/workshops, performances and interventions in various art and research-oriented contexts, recently including Sub_text and Threads Radio, Berlin; ZK/U–Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik, Berlin; Schauspiel Leipzig; ASCA Univ. of Amsterdam; Frankfurt Lab; Solyanka VPA State Gallery, Moscow; Blueproject Foundation, Barcelona; Museum of Nonconformist Art, St. Petersburg; Flutgraben, Berlin; Cité de l’Image, Luxembourg; CCI Fabrika, Moscow; White Box, New York; Incheon Art Platform; and Seoul Museum. In 2019 she conceived the ‘Acid Bodies’ participatory research entity, which probes psychospatial mediations of ideology, desire, symbolic violence, and the body as a site of resistance in crisis. This ongoing work began in Berlin at ZK/U and since 2020 has been developed into an experimental MA course at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule–Raumstrategien program where she is currently a lecturer. www.euna-kim.com
