Associate – Private Equity (Generalist, DACH Focus)

Albert Cliff Limited | Bavaria, Germany (On-site)

The Firm

Our client is a Munich-based private equity platform with over €1bn in permanent capital and a mandate to deploy flexible equity into high-potential businesses across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and select Western European markets. Combining the long-term orientation of family capital with the rigor of institutional private equity, the firm has established itself as a trusted partner to the Mittelstand—unlocking growth, enabling succession, and institutionalising governance in sectors where Germany retains global leadership.

The platform is deliberately lean, entrepreneurial, and non-bureaucratic, providing Associates with direct exposure to senior decision-makers and meaningful responsibility from the outset. With discretionary access to capital and full autonomy in investment decisions, the team pursues opportunities where thematic conviction, differentiated origination, and hands-on value creation drive sustainable outperformance.

The Opportunity

The incoming Associate will play a central role within a close-knit investment team, gaining end-to-end exposure across the full deal lifecycle. The remit is deliberately generalist, covering industrials, advanced manufacturing, business services, consumer, and niche technology verticals, reflecting both the resilience and innovation embedded in the German and DACH corporate landscape.

This is a high-responsibility position designed for a resourceful investor who combines analytical rigor with commercial judgement, and who is motivated by the opportunity to partner directly with founders, family shareholders, and management teams. Success will require cultural fluency in navigating the Mittelstand and an ability to balance financial sophistication with entrepreneurial pragmatism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transaction execution: Lead core workstreams in live deals, including financial modelling (LBOs, cash flow forecasting, scenario analyses), valuation benchmarking, due diligence coordination, and drafting of investment memoranda for IC review.
  • Origination: Drive thematic sourcing initiatives across DACH markets, conduct market mapping, originate proprietary opportunities, and engage directly with entrepreneurs and succession-planning shareholders.
  • Due diligence: Structure and manage diligence processes across financial, commercial, legal, tax, and operational dimensions; coordinate external advisors; and synthesise findings into actionable investment theses.
  • Portfolio value creation: Collaborate with portfolio company management teams post-investment, supporting strategic planning, KPI implementation, board reporting, bolt-on analysis, and eventual exit preparation.
  • Sector strategy: Build and refine sector insights, develop long-term investment theses, and identify white-space opportunities across fragmented markets in the lower mid-cap space.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Represent the firm credibly with founders, family owners, management teams, co-investors, and advisory networks, contributing to the firm’s reputation as a trusted long-term partner.
Candidate Profile
  • Professional experience: Minimum 3+ years in investment banking (M&A), private equity, strategy consulting, or transaction advisory with strong execution exposure and a track record of handling complex projects independently.
  • Technical skillset: Advanced proficiency in financial modelling (LBOs, integrated three-statement models, sensitivity analyses), with the ability to pressure-test assumptions and extract key insights from large data sets.
  • Commercial judgement: Strong business acumen with the ability to deconstruct business models, assess competitive dynamics, and articulate investment rationales beyond the numbers.
  • Personal qualities: Entrepreneurial, resourceful, and self-directed, with a low-ego, collaborative mindset and the ability to thrive in a flat, non-hierarchical organisation.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills, with the maturity to interact credibly with senior stakeholders and the cultural adaptability to build trust with German Mittelstand owners.
  • Academic background: Outstanding academic credentials from a leading university; fluency in German and English is essential, with additional European languages a plus.
