DESCRIPTION
Are you a PhD candidate or graduate interested in a 2025 full-time role in the field of Applied Sciences? Are you interested in machine learning, deep learning, automated reasoning, speech, robotics, computer vision, optimization, or quantum computing? If so, we want to hear from you! We are looking for scientists with an interest in using a variety of domain expertise to invent, design and implement state-of-the-art solutions for never-before-solved problems.
AWS is looking for world class scientists to join The Learned Systems Group to broadly apply machine learning and foundational models to database system problems. Within the Learned Systems Group you will invent, implement, and deploy state of machine learning techniques to make our data systems easier to use or to improve its efficiency. Potential projects include but are not limited to Amazon Q Generative SQL (Text2SQL and other interactive ways to work with structured data in natural language), AI-driven cluster scaling techniques, cluster pool optimization, or autonomics (e.g., learning-enhanced storage layouts, intelligent scheduling and admission control, MV selection). You will build prototypes and innovate on new representation learning solutions. You will interact closely with our customers and with the academic and research communities. You will be at the heart of a growing and exciting focus area for AWS and work with other acclaimed engineers and scientists.
Key job responsibilities
As an Applied Scientist, you will own the design and development of end-to-end AWS database experiences (using mostly C++ and Python). You'll have the opportunity to write technical white papers, create technical roadmaps and drive production level projects that will support Amazon Science. You will have the opportunity to design new algorithms, models, or other technical solutions whilst experiencing Amazon's customer focused culture. The ideal scientist must have the ability to work with diverse groups of people and cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems.
