SMS Global Group in Frankfurt is seeking a hands-on Air Freight Coordinator to manage import and export shipments from booking to delivery. You will liaise with customers, airlines, handling agents, customs brokers, and partners to ensure on-time, compliant execution.

The role emphasizes ownership, proactive communication, and teamwork in a dynamic, international logistics environment. Fluency in German and English is required; Mandarin is a plus.

Qualifikationen

• Good written and spoken German and English; Mandarin language skills are an advantage.
• Initial experience in air freight import or export is preferred; recent graduates with relevant training or internship experience will be considered.
• Basic understanding of air freight processes and documents; experience with freight-forwarding software is a plus.

• Handle day-to-day air freight import and export files from booking through delivery and file closure.
• Create and maintain shipments in the transport management system with instructions, milestones, documents, costs and status updates.
• Arrange airline or co-loader bookings and coordinate pickup, warehouse handling, customs clearance and final delivery.
• Prepare and check HAWB, MAWB, pre-alerts, manifests, customs instructions and other required shipping documents.
• Monitor flights and milestones, inform customers and partners, and resolve delays or exceptions promptly.
• Communicate daily with customers, overseas offices and agents, airlines, brokers, and internal colleagues.
• Verify costs, prepare customer invoicing, close files, and follow SOPs; escalate risks to Operations Manager.

About the Role: You will coordinate air freight import and export shipments from booking through final delivery and file closure. Working with customers, airlines, handling agents, customs brokers, truckers and overseas partners, you will ensure each shipment is executed accurately, on time and in line with the agreed instructions and SOP. The position suits a practical and service-minded freight forwarder who enjoys taking ownership, communicating proactively and solving operational issues. This is not a management role; the focus is reliable daily execution and teamwork.

• Handle day-to-day air freight import and export files from booking or order receipt through delivery and file closure.
• Create and maintain shipments in the transport management system, including instructions, milestones, documents, costs and status updates.
• Arrange airline or co-loader bookings and coordinate pickup, warehouse or terminal handling, customs clearance and final delivery.
• Prepare and check HAWB, MAWB, pre-alerts, manifests, customs instructions and other required shipping documents.
• Monitor flights and shipment milestones, keep customers and partners informed, and resolve delays or exceptions promptly.
• Communicate daily with customers, overseas offices and agents, airlines, ground handlers, brokers, truckers and internal colleagues.
• Verify supplier costs, prepare customer invoicing, close files accurately and follow customer SOPs and applicable compliance requirements; elevate risks to the Operations Manager.

Job Requirements

What We're Looking For:

• Completed vocational training in freight forwarding or logistics, such as Kaufmann/-frau für Spedition und Logistikdienstleistung, or comparable education is preferred.
• Initial experience in air freight import or export is preferred; recent graduates and junior candidates with relevant training or internship experience will also be considered. Basic understanding of air freight processes and documents; experience with freight-forwarding software or Riege Scope is an advantage.
• Good written and spoken German and English; Mandarin language skills are an advantage.
• Accurate and well organized, with the ability to manage several shipment files and priorities at the same time.
• Proactive, customer-focused and service-minded, with clear communication and a strong sense of ownership for daily operational work.
• A collaborative team player who is willing to learn and support urgent shipments or peak periods when reasonably required.
