The Digital R&D (DRD) organization at Covestro develops digital solutions for chemical research, including material simulations, automation, data science, high-performance computing, and quantum computing. We are expanding our team to leverage artificial intelligence, especially large language models, to gain insights from unstructured data and support chemical research with AI and creativity.

We offer an attractive starting salary between €87,200 and €105,900 per year, plus a variable component for full-time employees, based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities include:

• Supporting AI projects and initiatives
• Analyzing requirements and identifying relevant data and tools for LLMs, AI models, and applications
• Developing, maintaining, and automating pipelines for chemical LLMs
• Developing access models for confidential information sources from LLMs
• Maintaining and operating existing solutions
• Collaborating with cloud architects to automate and monitor pipelines

Qualifications:

Required:

• Master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, AI, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
• Strong Python programming skills for data and ML pipelines
• Experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and HuggingFace Transformers
• Understanding of MLOps principles and tools
• Experience with modern data architectures and cloud ML infrastructure (preferably AWS)

Preferred:

• Experience with large-scale LLM training (e.g., PyTorch Distributed, DeepSpeed)
• Proficiency in ML evaluation, hyperparameter tuning, error analysis
• Knowledge of NLP and IR is a plus
• Basic understanding of polymer chemistry and interest in applying ML to scientific data
• Strong communication skills in English
