Job summary

Helios Software Group is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our growing finance team. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day accounting of our German operations, including month-end close, VAT filings, and intercompany reconciliations in a fully remote role across Europe.

You’ll report to the Director of Finance and collaborate with a distributed team. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in German accounting (HGB), software/SaaS experience, and fluency in German and English.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years in accounting with hands-on German accounting (HGB) and German tax knowledge.
• Experience in the software/SaaS industry.
• Fluent German and English (written and spoken).
• Based in Europe and eligible to work in your country of residence.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end and year-end close for German entities, including journal entries and analysis.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and review.
• Follow up with vendors on missing invoices and prepare cost accruals for P&L.
• Process payments and intercompany reconciliations and ensure approvals.
• Prepare German VAT filings and support payroll tax filings with providers.
• Assist with annual financial statements under HGB and audits.
• Help maintain controls and clean up messy ledgers and processes.
• Prepare financial KPIs and reporting for the finance team.

Helios Software Group is looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated Accountant to join our growing finance team. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day accounting of our German operations.

Helios is part of Valsoft Corporation, an international group that acquires and grows vertical market software businesses. As part of Valsoft, you’ll benefit from the stability of a large group while working in a hands‑on, entrepreneurial team.

You will report toDirector of Finance/ Head of Finance and work closely with the wider finance team. This is a fully remote role open to candidates located in Europe.

What Your Day Will Look Like

• Support month-end and year-end close for our German entities, including journal entries and accounting analysis.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and support their review.
• Follow up with vendors on missing invoices and prepare cost accruals for the P&L review.
• Process payments and bank transfers, and make sure approvals are in place.
• Reconcile intercompany transactions.
• Prepare German VAT filings (Umsatzsteuervoranmeldung, Zusammenfassende Meldung) and support payroll tax filings (Lohnsteuer-Anmeldung) together with our payroll provider and tax advisor.
• Support the annual financial statements under HGB, statutory audits and tax filings.
• Help make sure key controls and procedures are followed. Where processes or ledgers are messy or out of date, help clean them up and put proper structures in place.
• Prepare financial KPIs and reporting for the finance team, and check them for accuracy.
• Support the monthly variance analysis of actuals against budget and forecast.
• Work closely with the finance team on daily operations, reporting and special projects.

About You

• At least 3 years of accounting experience, with hands‑on experience in German accounting (HGB) and German tax requirements.
• Experience in the software / SaaS industry.
• Multi-currency or multi-entity experience is a plus.
• Solid understanding of accrual accounting.
• A professional qualification in accounting or bookkeeping is an asset.
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel. NetSuite experience is a plus.
• Detail‑oriented and diligent. You take accuracy seriously and your work is reliable.
• Not afraid of cleaning things up. You enjoy bringing order to messy ledgers, open items and old processes.
• Self‑motivated. You work independently in a remote setup, take ownership and act on your own initiative.
• A team player who enjoys working closely with colleagues and communicates proactively, even remotely.
• Curious and quick to learn new systems, with the wish to grow and take on more responsibility over time.
• Fluent German and English (written and spoken).
• Based in Europe and authorized to work in your country of residence. Being located in or near Berlin is a plus.
