Responsibilities

This role requires the candidate to perform all aspects of accounting, from producing simple general ledger journals to creating the complete set of financial statements, as well as performing the accounts receivable and payable functions, managing inventory and other assets.

The company is a small subsidiary of OSI Systems Inc, which is a multi-national corporation with revenues exceeding USD 1 billion. There is scope for this role to expand to include financial responsibility for other companies within the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region in the future for a successful candidate.

Skills Required
  • Confident with reading, writing and speaking in both German and English is essential.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including confident use of pivot tables, logical formulae, lookup functions, etc.
  • Accounting and bookkeeping skills necessary to create the financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) and extended trial balance.
  • Working knowledge of the different types of tax applicable in Germany.
  • Confident with working with limited supervision, able to solve problems independently, and manage work requirements effectively in a changing environment.
General Accounting Responsibilities
  • Create and post general ledger entries for Rapiscan Germany in both Enterprise Resource Systems (ERP) of Navision 5.0 and Dynamics.
  • Produce and review the monthly financial results for Rapiscan Germany at the Trial Balance level in accordance with the monthly reporting deadlines.
  • Produce the complete financial statements using Excel: balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement using the trial balance information.
  • Perform the balance sheet reconciliations for Rapiscan Germany and resolve any queries that arise from the reconciliations.
  • Process and reconcile intercompany invoices with other companies in the OSI group and meet the intercompany reporting deadlines.
  • Ensure German accounting and operational activities are compliant with the OSI group SOX internal control requirements.
Accounts Receivable Responsibilities
  • Follow up with customers that are overdue with payments, and successfully secure payment.
  • Invoice customers for products and services sold by Rapiscan Germany, ensuring all tax, incoterms, and other paperwork requirements are fulfilled.
Accounts Payable Responsibilities
  • Ensure that supplier invoices are directed to the Regional Accounts Payable Team, that suppliers are paid timely, and that supplier queries are resolved.
  • Advise operational staff raising purchase orders and signing off invoices with the correct general ledger coding.
Inventory and Assets Responsibilities
  • Support the European Regional Assets and Inventory Accountant with inventory management, physical inventory counts, cycle counts, etc.
  • Manage the Capital Expenditure process for Rapiscan Germany.
Taxes Responsibilities
  • Calculate and submit Rapiscan Germany VAT returns.
  • Calculate and submit Rapiscan UK VAT returns for its Germany VAT registration.
  • Submit Intrastat and EC sales reports for both companies' VAT registrations.
  • Resolve tax queries with the German tax authorities for corporation tax, employee tax, social insurance, import VAT, VAT, withholding taxes, etc.
Statutory Accounts Responsibilities
  • Support the European Regional Statutory Accounts and Tax Accountant with the preparation of Rapiscan Germany statutory accounts and corporation tax returns.
  • Ensure that Rapiscan Germany is compliant with its obligations to pay taxes and other financial commitments on time.
Payroll Responsibilities
  • Support the Regional Payroll team with Germany-specific payroll queries that may arise.
  • Resolve queries for employee pension contributions and additional voluntary contributions.
Legal Responsibilities
  • Work with the European Regional Legal staff on administrative legal matters that may arise.
Qualifications
  • Accountancy qualification or related field.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial statements and periodicals.
  • Fluency in English and German.
  • Confident with reading, writing, and speaking in English.
  • Accounting skills to prepare financial results at the trial balance level.
  • Working knowledge of the different types of tax applicable in Germany.
