AgileEngine is seeking a Software Architect to audit and redefine the target-state architecture for an FDA-regulated SaaS product. You will guide a small, mixed-technology team (PHP, C++, JavaScript) and drive architectural decisions across domains.

You will design scalable, compliant solutions, improve CI/CD, and mentor engineers while balancing backward compatibility with modernization. Strong English and independent work style are essential.

Qualifications

• Lead Software Architect, Principal Engineer, or equivalent senior leadership.
• 8+ years of experience in mixed-technology stacks (PHP, C++, JavaScript).
• Strong fundamentals: SOLID and GRASP; modern architecture patterns.
• Experience with layered architectures: DDD, ACL, Hexagonal/clean architecture.
• Experience designing SaMD in regulatory contexts.
• Proven API design, data models, and multi-language integration.
• Experience remediating technical debt and modernizing legacy systems.
• CI/CD improvements with secure, auditable delivery.
• Excellent communication; mentor remote teams.
• Independent, high integrity; upper-intermediate English.

Responsibilities

• Assess current architecture and data flows to identify debt and scalability constraints.
• Define target-state architecture aligned with DDD and clean architecture.
• Design denormalized storage for read-heavy workloads with trade-off analyses.
• Lead phased roadmap and refactoring while preserving backward compatibility.
• Establish engineering standards and decision-making frameworks.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership to a mixed-technology team (PHP, C++, JS).
• Improve CI/CD processes, testing, and release workflows.
• Mentor and conduct design reviews; create architectural documentation.
