Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Associate Director – Fire Engineering (Data Centers) to lead the fire suppression design for data center projects in Medellin, Colombia. The role requires 8+ years in fire suppression design, with 5+ years on mission‑critical Data Center projects, and strong NFPA/FM Global knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, Fire Protection, or related engineering.
• 8+ years of fire suppression design experience, incl. 5+ years delivering mission‑critical/Data Center projects.
• Proficiency with NFPA, FM Global standards, and local code application.
• Proficiency with Revit MEP and AutoCAD; hands‑on with hydraulic calculation tools.
• Proven team leadership and project delivery experience (scope, schedule, budget, risk).
• Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Lead fire protection design for Data Centers (various systems).
• Develop basis-of-design, calculations, hydraulic models, sizing, and specs.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, FM Global, and local codes; interpret client standards.
• Define protection strategies for white space, electrical rooms, and critical areas.
• Oversee QA/QC reviews, BIM coordination, and interdisciplinary reviews.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, and technical clarifications during procurement.
• Lead client engagements: requirements capture, design reviews, and presentations.
• Standardize templates, methods, and design guides; drive continuous improvement.
• Plan scope, schedule, budgets; support proposals and resourcing.
• Mentor team members and enforce safety and information management.
