We are seeking a high-caliber logistics professional with 2+ years of experience to join our team as an Operations Manager (In Training to Full Ownership). This role is a unique hybrid of hands‑on freight execution and strategic leadership. You will begin with a structured 90‑day ramp period, acting as an Operations Manager‑in‑Training alongside our current manager to master specific standards and service expectations.
During this phase, you will remain active in booking freight and supporting carrier sales to maintain market fluency while gradually assuming ownership of operational decision‑making. As you transition to full ownership, you will lead the operations team, oversee complex escalations, and drive process improvements across the freight lifecycle.
Core Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership & Team Development: Partner closely with leadership to support and eventually lead the Operations team, serving as a primary point of contact for Carrier Sales Reps.Training & Onboarding: Assist with onboarding and training new hires, ensuring a deep understanding of operational procedures, carrier requirements, and TMS/CRM workflows.
- Full Freight Lifecycle Execution: Manage day‑to‑day shipments including booking freight, carrier follow‑up, tracking and tracing, and proactive issue resolution.
- Service Excellence: Oversee daily operations to ensure on‑time pick‑ups and deliveries, accurate in‑transit updates, and clear customer communication.
- Escalation Ownership: Manage high‑priority customer issues, service failures, and financial exposures; approve critical shipment changes such as rate adjustments or reroutes.
- Market Fluency: Maintain strong awareness of market conditions, capacity trends, and pricing to assist Carrier Sales with creative sourcing and backup planning.
- Process Improvement: Identify recurring inefficiencies, document new workflows, and ensure team adherence to TMS/CRM usage for accuracy and compliance.
- Reporting & Accountability: Monitor operational KPIs, ensure the accuracy of load documentation, and provide performance insights to leadership.
Required Experience & Skills
- Industry Experience: 3+ years of proven experience in logistics operations and carrier sales (3PL or brokerage required).
- Operational Expertise: Deep familiarity with the full freight lifecycle and the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities under pressure.
- Leadership Mentality: Comfortable operating in both “in‑the‑trenches” execution and leadership roles; proven ability to foster a high‑accountability culture.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience using TMS and CRM systems; familiarity with Revenova/Salesforce is a significant plus.
- Communication: Exceptional problem‑solving instincts and the ability to serve as a clear liaison between Carrier Sales, Operations, and Leadership.
- Flexibility: Willingness to provide operational coverage during high‑volume periods and handle after‑hours escalations as needed.
Growth Path: The First 90 Days & Beyond
Your success will be measured by your transition from “Training” to “Full Ownership.” The initial 90 days focus on building operational fluency and trust. Post‑ramp progression is based on your demonstrated readiness to manage shipments independently, show strong judgment in handling escalations, and collaborate effectively across all internal departments.
