About Us
Astra Bioplant Trading SA is the Geneva-based international trading arm of Astra Bioplant, a vertically integrated Bulgarian agri-industrial group with crushing, refining and biodiesel production capacity. From Geneva, we trade vegetable oils, oilseeds, biofuels and secondgeneration feedstocks across the Black Sea, Mediterranean, Europe, North Africa and Asia.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Vegetable Oils Trader to grow our physical and paper vegoils book. You will report to the Head of Trading and have direct P&L responsibility across rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, palm oil and soybean oil.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate, trade and execute physical vegoil flows (CIF/FOB/DAP), from supplier sourcing through vessel execution and final settlement
- Manage the paper book: hedge physical exposure and take proprietary positions on Matif, CBOT, BMD and OTC markets
- Build and manage relative-value and spread strategies across the four oils
- Develop and maintain relationships with crushers, refiners, end-users, brokers and trade houses
- Optimise logistics, freight and storage together with operations and chartering
- Work closely with the group's crushing and refining assets to optimise margins and product placement
- Manage credit, counterparty and contract risk under FOSFA terms, in coordination with Trade Finance, Risk and Compliance
- Provide market intelligence on supply/demand, policy and price drivers to the trading team and management
Requirements
- At least 10 years of front-office trading experience in vegetable oils, covering both physical and paper
- Proven track record trading rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, palm oil and soybean oil
- Strong command of futures, options and spreads, and of basis and hedging mechanics
- In-depth knowledge of FOSFA contracts, trade finance instruments (LCs, documentary collections) and physical execution
- Established network of counterparties in key origins and destinations (Black Sea, EU, Southeast Asia, South America, MENA or India)
- Disciplined risk management and a demonstrable P&L history
- Fluent English; additional languages (French, German, Ukrainian, Turkish, Bulgarian) are an advantage
- Eligible to work in Switzerland or able to obtain a permit
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of biodiesel markets (FAME, RME, HVO feedstocks), RED III and ISCC
- Understanding of crushing economics: crush margins, oil/meal share and plant optimisation
- Experience in a vertically integrated or asset-backed trading environment
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary plus a performance-linked bonus
- Direct access to industrial assets (crushing, refining, biodiesel) that supports origination and optimisation
- An entrepreneurial, lean desk with short decision lines
