Job summary

Alpiq is seeking a senior power trader to develop and execute trading strategies across UK, CWE and Nordic markets, with a focus on UK opportunities from renewables, system imbalances and storage. You will join a European desk, trading wind/solar assets and managing intraday and day-ahead activities on a 7/7 shift.

The role demands a strong background in UK markets, knowledge of European short-term markets, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in engineering, Economics, IT or similar.
• Minimum 2 years of power trading experience in UK Day-Ahead and Intraday.
• Experience in Renewables trading and in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Understanding of European Short Term Power markets.
• Proficient level of English.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Programming in Python and algorithmic trading experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Trade a virtual power plant portfolio of wind/solar in DE, FR, FI, SE on a 7/7-day shift basis in Intraday and Day Ahead market.
• Act as the in-house expert for UK short-term power markets, covering Day-Ahead and Intraday, balancing and flexibility markets.
• Develop and execute trading strategies across UK, CWE and Nordic power markets, focusing on UK opportunities from renewables, storage and interconnectors.
• Support commercial development and optimization of Battery Energy Storage Systems in the UK market.
• Provide market insights on battery economics, congestion management and revenue stacking.
• Manage risk exposure of proprietary positions within risk policies and limits.
• Monitor market fundamentals: weather, generation, demand, fuel prices, interconnectors, balancing signals.
• Collaborate on algorithmic trading, forecasting models and automation with analytics teams.
• Deliver daily performance reviews, back-testing and market reporting for stakeholders.
• Share knowledge across the trading desk and assist onboarding of new team members.
