Job summary

Ansaldo Energia Switzerland AG in Baden is seeking a Thermals & Clearances Engineer to design, develop and validate our gas turbine power trains and contribute to shaping the power generation landscape.

You will collaborate with Thermal Integration, Mechanical Integrity and design teams, using NX/ANSYS and C++ to model thermo-mechanical behavior, evaluate transient missions, and document results for the expert community. The role is based in Baden with 100% workload and requires up to 10% travel.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering with focus on fluid dynamics and heat transfer
• 3+ years’ experience in turbomachinery design preferred
• Knowledge of NX/ANSYS or similar tools for 1D/2D/3D multiphysics analysis
• Knowledge of programming languages, especially C++
• Excellent command of English

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and validate the gas turbine power trains and contribute to the power generation landscape
• Iterate with Thermal Integration, Compressor and Turbine teams to input mission cycles
• Support blade, vane and structural designs for clearances and thermal behavior
• Assist lifing assessments of rotor and casings with the Mechanical Integrity team
• Develop new automated numerical methods and tools for thermal input and clearance evaluations
• Process and evaluate test results and present findings to the expert community
• Support development of tools and methods

Your focus is to design, develop and validate our gas turbine power trains and contribute to shaping the power generation landscape.

Your tasks:

• Develop the whole engine model of our Gas Turbine to evaluate thermo-mechanical behavior during different transient mission cycles taking into account the efficiency of the engine;
• Iterate with other teams like Thermal Integration, Compressor and Turbine to check the inputs for the mission cycles;
• Support design solutions of blades, vanes and structural elements in terms of clearances and thermal behavior;
• Iterate with Mechanical Integrity team to support the lifing assessments of rotor and casings;
• Develop new automated numerical methods and tools supplying thermal input for lifetime assessments as well as for clearance evaluationsPerform processing and evaluation of test results;
• Take responsibility for technical documentation as well as for presenting analysis results within the expert community;
• Support the development of tools and methods.

Your profile

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering with background on Fluid dynamics and heat transfer mechanisms;
• Preferably at least 3 years’ experience in turbomachinery design;
• knowledge of gas and steam turbine architecture and operation;
• knowledge of the main parameters that define the transient thermo-mechanical behavior of the engine;
• Knowledge of NX/ANSYS or similar tools for 1D, 2D, 3D multiphysics analysis;
• Knowledge on programming languages and C++;
• High focus on producing high quality results and documentation;
• Critical thinking, problem solving & analytical skills;
• Strong communication skills & experience in working in multidisciplinary teams;
• Excellent command of English;
• Availability to travel globally (occasionally, 10% max).
