Job summary

Sonar is seeking a driven, autonomous Staff Engineer to join the Billing Squad within the StoreFront department. This cross-functional team releases new billing features and pricing models for enterprise and SMB customers with an AI-native, usage-based product offering.

You will own end-to-end delivery from architecture to deployment, partnering with Product Managers and Engineering Managers, and mentoring others while ensuring secure, scalable cloud and on-premises solutions for millions of

Qualifications

• Over 6 years of software engineering experience, with leadership roles such as Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or Software Architect.
• Proven ability to drive initiatives involving multiple stakeholders with minimal supervision.
• Experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Codex, Claude) and cloud-native architectures.
• Proficiency in Java and a strong emphasis on Clean Code and software quality.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and SQL.
• Domain knowledge of billing and payment processing systems (Stripe) or subscription management is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver robust security features with a great user experience.
• Lead cross-functional squads to ensure smooth releases of new features and products.
• Own squad deliverables and drive sprints toward successful completion.
• Architect and guide the design of on-premises and AWS cloud applications.
• Oversee deployment, monitoring, and live issue resolution for the billing functionality.
• Mentor engineers to grow technically and remove blockers to autonomy.
• Help define the team's short- and long-term goals.
