Job summary

Montrose County School District in Colorado is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (Part Time) to support a Speech Language Pathologist in a districtwide setting with IEP-driven therapy for students with communication impairments.

As a non-exempt role reporting to the Director of Special Education, you will work within the 180-day instructional calendar, performing therapy, documentation, and material prep while assisting in device implementation and screenings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Speech-Communication, Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders, or Speech Sciences from an accredited institution of higher education required
  • Completion of speech-language pathology assistant program (SLPA) required. Will consider candidates who are entered into a program.
  • CDE State Certification for SLPA required. Will consider candidates working toward certification.
  • Two to three years of direct, hands-on experience working with students with speech language impairments.
  • Valid CO driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech language therapy services to students according to their IEP goals as developed by the supervising SLP.
  • Assist the SLP, teachers and other related service personnel in implementation of individual programs to achieve educational goals as outlined in student's IEPs.
  • Monitor and document student progress toward meeting IEP goals.
  • Report and record progress information on each student and share in consultation with supervising SLP, teachers and the Special Education Coordinator as requested.
  • Maintain and prepare materials to align with student targeted goals and activities.
  • Assist the SLP with informal documentation for students.
  • Assist in the preparation of lesson plans and instructional materials as requested by the supervising SLP. Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of all therapy equipment and supplies used within the speech therapy department.
  • Assist in implementing new communication devices and processes as directed by the supervising SLP.
  • Participate in training activities and assist with speech-language screenings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary of Position

This position will assist with delivery of speech language service with oversight by a Speech Language Pathologist who serves students with speech language impairments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for providing speech language therapy services to students according to their Individual Education Program (IEP) goals as developed by the supervising Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).
  • Assist the SLP, teachers and other related service personnel in implementation of individual programs to achieve educational goals as outlined in student's IEPs.

  • Report and record progress information on each student and share in consultation with supervising SLP, teachers and the Special Education Coordinator as requested.
  • Maintain and prepare a wide variety of manual and electronic materials to align with student targeted goals and activities.
  • Assist the SLP with informal documentation for students.
  • Assist in the preparation of lesson plans and instructional materials as requested by the supervising SLP. Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of all therapy equipment and supplies used within the speech therapy department.
  • Assist in implementing new communication devices and processes as directed by the supervising SLP.
  • Participate in training activities and assist with speech-language screenings as needed.

  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Education/Certification

Physical Requirements
  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 30 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • This type of work involves a stationary position most of the time but may involve moving for brief periods.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
  • Ability to travel to local schools as needed.
