Job summary

Lonza in Visp is seeking an EI&C Software Application Engineer to design, implement, and maintain software that connects industrial control systems with core databases for pharmaceutical manufacturing.

You will collaborate across Automation, Manufacturing, Validation, Quality and IT teams, developing tools in VBA, PowerShell, C#, and SQL within a Git-controlled environment, ensuring GMP/GxP compliance and cybersecurity.

Qualifications

• Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Background in software development, database management, networking, and OT/IT system integration.
• Proficiency in C#, SQL, PowerShell, and VBA.
• Experience with automation/manufacturing systems in GMP/GxP settings.

Responsibilities

• Drive digital connectivity by linking industrial control systems with core databases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Automation, Manufacturing, Validation, Quality and IT teams.
• Develop, configure, and maintain automation apps using VBA, PowerShell, C#, SQL in Git environments.
• Create engineering and software design specs compliant with GxP and GMP.
• Perform software testing, commissioning, qualification, and deployment for manufacturing apps.
• Troubleshoot and improve system reliability and performance on site.
• Ensure cybersecurity, data integrity, and change management across OT/IT.

Are you an engineer or IT professional eager to bridge the gap between Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT)? Join our team in Visp as an EI&C Software Application Engineer, where you will develop, integrate, and maintain software solutions that directly power cutting‑edge pharmaceutical manufacturing.

This is a fully site‑based role. Working together in person supports close, real‑time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

What you will do:

• Drive digital connectivity by designing, implementing, and integrating software solutions that link industrial control systems (DCS, MES, historians) with core database systems.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional Automation, Manufacturing, Validation, Quality, and IT teams across the project lifecycle.
• Develop, configure, and maintain automation and manufacturing applications using VBA, PowerShell, C#, and SQL in a Git-version-controlled environment.
• Create engineering, software design, and functional specifications compliant with GxP and GMP standards.
• Execute software testing, commissioning, qualification, and deployment activities for critical manufacturing applications.
• Troubleshoot, perform root‑cause investigations, and enhance system reliability and performance on site.
• Ensure strict compliance with cybersecurity, data integrity, and change management requirements across OT/IT platforms.

What we are looking for:

• Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Background in software development, database management, networking, and OT/IT system integration.
• Proficiency in programming and scripting languages including C#, SQL, PowerShell, and VBA.
• Hands‑on experience with automation/manufacturing systems (e.g., DeltaV, Syncade, OSIsoft PI, DCS, MES) in a GMP/GxP‑regulated setting.
• Understanding of software lifecycle management, computer system validation (CSV/CSA), and data integrity standards.
• Strong analytical skills with a structured approach to troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.
• Professional fluency in English and/or German.
