Job summary

Lonza Group AG in Visp, Switzerland, is seeking an automation engineer to design, configure, and implement Emerson DeltaV solutions for major CAPEX projects at our site. This fully on-site role emphasizes close collaboration with process engineering, IT/OT, validation, and operations to deliver compliant, high-performance automation systems and robust documentation under GxP regimes.

You will troubleshoot, support commissioning, and contribute to continuous improvement to ensure manufacturing

Qualifications

  • Degree in automation, electrical engineering, computer science or related field.
  • Hands-on DeltaV configuration and administration in pharma/biotech or industrial manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of process control, instrumentation, and automation architectures.
  • Working knowledge of GxP, GAMP5, and CSV in regulated environments.
  • Experience with CAPEX projects, system integration, and commissioning processes.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, fluent in German and/or English.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and implement Emerson DeltaV automation solutions for CAPEX projects at Visp.
  • Configure DeltaV modules, phases, recipes, graphics, alarms, and interfaces per standards.
  • Collaborate with process engineering, IT/OT, validation, and operations to deliver fit-for-purpose systems.
  • Develop and maintain GxP-compliant automation documentation, test protocols, and validation records.
  • Support system architecture, hardware configuration, network integration, and third-party interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot automation, hardware, software, and communications during project and startup phases.
  • Contribute to change control, deviation investigations, risk assessments, and continuous improvement.

This is a fully site-based role. Working together in person supports close, real-time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

What you will do:
  • Design, configure, and implement Emerson DeltaV automation solutions for high-impact pharmaceutical and biotech CAPEX projects at Visp.
  • Configure DeltaV control modules, equipment modules, phases, recipes, graphics, alarms, and system interfaces following established company standards.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including process engineering, IT/OT, validation, and operations to deliver fit-for-purpose automation systems.
  • Develop and maintain GxP-compliant automation documentation, including functional design specifications, test protocols, and validation records.
  • Support system architecture design, hardware configuration, network integration, and third-party system interface development.
  • Troubleshoot automation, hardware, software, and communication issues during project execution, startup, and operational support.
  • Participate in change control, deviation investigations, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational excellence.
What we are looking for:
  • Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and administering Emerson DeltaV automation systems within pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of process control design, instrumentation, and industrial automation architectures.
  • Working knowledge of GxP, GAMP5, and computerized system validation (CSV) within regulated environments.
  • Practical experience or strong familiarity with CAPEX project execution, system integration, and commissioning processes.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a root-cause-analysis mindset for complex automation systems.
  • Professional fluency in German and/or English.
