Job summary

Lonza Visp is seeking an automation engineer to design and optimize Emerson DeltaV solutions for major capital expansion projects at the Visp site. You will configure DeltaV modules, work with cross‑functional teams, and develop GxP‑compliant documentation to support validation and commissioning.

You will collaborate closely with process engineering, IT/OT, validation, and operations to ensure fit‑for‑purpose automation.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on DeltaV automation system experience in pharma/biotech/chemical or industrial manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of process control design, instrumentation, and automation architectures.
  • Knowledge of GxP, GAMP5, and CSV in regulated environments.
  • Experience with CAPEX project execution, system integration, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and implement Emerson DeltaV automation solutions for Visp CAPEX projects.
  • Configure DeltaV control modules, equipment modules, phases, recipes, graphics, alarms, and interfaces.
  • Collaborate with process engineering, IT/OT, validation, and operations to deliver fit-for-purpose automation systems.
  • Develop and maintain GxP-compliant automation documentation (FDS, test protocols, validation records).
  • Support system architecture design, hardware configuration, network integration, and third‑party interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot automation, hardware, software, and communications during project, startup, and operations.
  • Participate in change control, deviation investigations, risk assessments, and continuous improvement.

What you will do:
  • Design, configure, and implement Emerson DeltaV automation solutions for high‑impact pharmaceutical and biotech CAPEX projects at Visp.
  • Configure DeltaV control modules, equipment modules, phases, recipes, graphics, alarms, and system interfaces following established company standards.
  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including process engineering, IT/OT, validation, and operations to deliver fit‑for‑purpose automation systems.
  • Develop and maintain GxP‑compliant automation documentation, including functional design specifications, test protocols, and validation records.
  • Support system architecture design, hardware configuration, network integration, and third‑party system interface development.
  • Troubleshoot automation, hardware, software, and communication issues during project execution, startup, and operational support.
  • Participate in change control, deviation investigations, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational excellence.
What we are looking for:
  • Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands‑on experience configuring and administering Emerson DeltaV automation systems within pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of process control design, instrumentation, and industrial automation architectures.
  • Working knowledge of GxP, GAMP5, and computerized system validation (CSV) within regulated environments.
  • Practical experience or strong familiarity with CAPEX project execution, system integration, and commissioning processes.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a root‑cause‑analysis mindset for complex automation systems.
  • Professional fluency in German and/or English.
