Job summary

Lonza is seeking an on-site Instrumentation Engineer in Visp for a 1-year contract. You will design and implement field instrumentation, maintain engineering data in COMOS, and ensure seamless integration with DCS/PLC systems. The role requires hands-on commissioning, loop checks, and collaboration with cross-functional teams including Quality and Validation.

Proficiency in German and English is mandatory. The position is fully site-based with an agile work culture and competitive hourly rate,

Qualifications

  • Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Automation Engineering or related.field
  • Experience in instrumentation engineering within regulated pharma/biotech environments
  • Hands-on experience managing engineering data and documentation in COMOS
  • Strong knowledge of field device integration, loop testing, commissioning
  • Familiarity with GMP/GxP environments; Kneat/UBIK experience advantageous
  • German language mandatory; English proficiency required

Job description

Join our engineering team on site in Visp on a 1-year contract, driving the design, maintenance, and GxP validation of critical process measurement systems to support state-of-the-art manufacturing operations.

Fully site-based roles

This is a fully site-based role. Working together in person supports close, real-time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

What you will do:
  • Design and specify field instrumentation and measurement technologies (pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical) for process and utility systems.
  • Maintain and manage instrument-related engineering data, loop diagrams, and instrument indexes using COMOS.
  • Support the seamless integration of field devices into DCS, PLC, and process control systems.
  • Coordinate and supervise site installation activities, ensuring strict compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Plan, execute, and troubleshoot loop checks, functional tests, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Execute digital GMP qualification tasks in Kneat and UBIK, supporting IQ/OQ documentation and testing.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across Automation, Process Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Validation.
What we are looking for:
  • Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven experience in instrumentation engineering within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or regulated chemical manufacturing environments.
  • Practical experience managing engineering data and documentation in COMOS.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of field device integration, loop testing, commissioning, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with GMP/GxP environments and digital qualification workflows (experience with Kneat and UBIK is advantageous).
  • Professional fluency in German is mandatory; English proficiency is required.
  • Excellent collaborative skills and a solution-oriented mindset for multi-disciplinary site environments.
