Job summary

Sompo International in Zurich is seeking a Senior Underwriter Casualty to lead and grow a portfolio of profitable multinational casualty business. The role involves client meetings, negotiations, and active collaboration with brokers and internal teams to shape underwriting strategy.

The successful candidate will bring 5–10 years of insurance experience, strong underwriting discipline, and a proven network with Swiss clients and brokers.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of professional experience in insurance, with strong multinational Casualty underwriting knowledge.
• Proven disciplined approach to underwriting and strong technical skills.
• Experience in start-up environments or developing new business/products is a plus.
• Excellent networking, market knowledge and relationships with clients and brokers in Switzerland.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage, build and process a portfolio of profitable Casualty business with terms and conditions.
• Conduct contract negotiations, participate in client meetings and hold presentations to clients and brokers for renewals or new business.
• Maintain existing client and broker relationships and develop new business opportunities with Business Development colleagues.
• Contribute to underwriting strategy development and monitor local market product developments.
• Support product development, maintenance and market introduction; monitor market trends.
• Engage in proactive sales activities with brokers and clients and participate in market events to promote Sompo brand.
• Cross-sell with other Sompo International Lines of Business, identifying insurance needs from insured transactions.

What you’ll be doing:

• Independently manage, build and process a portfolio of profitable Casualty business and creating offers with appropriate terms and conditions to achieve expected profitability
• Conduct contract negotiations, participate in client meetings and hold presentations to clients and brokers as part of policy renewals or new business
• Maintain existing client and broker relationships as well as develop new business opportunities in collaboration with Business Development colleagues
• Contribute actively to the development of underwriting strategies
• Support the product development, maintenance and introduction to the market including monitoring of the local market product developments
• Proactive and distinctive sales activities with brokers and clients, as well as participation in market events to promote the Sompo brand to attract new business submissions
• Active cross-selling with other Sompo International Lines of Businesses in particular identifying insurance needs arising from an insured transaction

What you’ll bring:

• 5 to 10 years professional experience in the insurance sector, with strong knowledge in multinational Casualty Underwriting
• Proven disciplined approach to underwriting and strong technical skills
• Experience in a start-up environment or in developing new business and/or new products within an established company is an advantage
• Excellent networking skills, market knowledge and relationships with clients and brokers in Switzerland
• Strong presentation and negotiation skills
• Ability to work under time-pressure and to meet deadlines
• Flexibility and willingness to travel and provide the highest quality of service
• Languages: Fluent in German and English. French would be a plus.
