Job summary

Sompo in Switzerland is seeking a Senior Underwriter Casualty to lead a profitable portfolio and shape underwriting standards within a growing team. Based in Zürich, you will negotiate with clients and brokers, develop new business, and collaborate with Business Development to expand Sompo's Casualty offerings across the market, while traveling as needed.

You will contribute actively to underwriting strategies and partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver excellent service.

Qualifications

• 5 to 10 years professional experience in the insurance sector, with strong knowledge in multinational Casualty Underwriting.
• Proven disciplined approach to underwriting and strong technical skills.
• Experience in a start-up environment or in developing new business and/or new products within an established company is an advantage.
• Excellent networking skills, market knowledge and relationships with clients and brokers in Switzerland.
• Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work under time-pressure and to meet deadlines.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel and provide the highest quality of service.
• Languages: Fluent in German and English. French would be a plus.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage, build and process a portfolio of profitable Casualty business and creating offers with appropriate terms and conditions to achieve expected profitability.
• Conduct contract negotiations, participate in client meetings and hold presentations to clients and brokers as part of policy renewals or new business.
• Maintain existing client and broker relationships as well as develop new business opportunities in collaboration with Business Development colleagues.
• Contribute actively to the development of underwriting strategies.
• Support the product development, maintenance and introduction to the market including monitoring of the local market product developments.
• Proactive and distinctive sales activities with brokers and clients, as well as participation in market events to promote the Sompo brand to attract new business submissions.
• Active cross-selling with other Sompo International Lines of Businesses in particular identifying insurance needs arising from an insured transaction.
