Job summary

Genentech in Basel seeks a Portfolio Leader (Cross Portfolio + Strategy & Operations) to partner with the Head of PSM and steer strategy, planning, operations, and team culture in a dynamic, evolving landscape.

You will lead cross-portfolio initiatives, shape portfolio strategy, assess dynamics, and translate analyses into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leaders. The role blends strategic thinking with hands-on leadership and a collaborative, results‑oriented culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree in science, business, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in operations, strategy and/or R&D within the biopharma industry.
• Experience in strategy development and linking strategy to tactics.
• Structured problem‑solving and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to frame ambiguous questions, synthesize information and develop clear, practical recommendations.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to set priorities, manage milestones and dependencies, and deliver special projects.
• Strong understanding of the drug development lifecycle
• Experience in cross‑portfolio strategy or portfolio management, including assessing portfolio dynamics, strategic options and prioritization trade‑offs.
• Strong analytical acumen, with the ability to interpret portfolio‑level risk/value assessments, business cases, metrics and benchmarks and turn them into actionable recommendations.
• Demonstrated experience as a strategic thought partner to senior leaders and teams, with a track record of driving change and innovation.
• Extensive strategic planning, stakeholder management, and operational execution expertise, including leading multiple complex, cross‑functional initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-portfolio initiatives and shape portfolio strategy.
• Assess portfolio dynamics and develop insights to inform portfolio-wide decisions.
• Partner with senior Pharma leaders and cross-functional teams to shape strategy and prioritization.
• Structure complex, ambiguous questions, define work and analysis needed, and synthesize evidence into clear recommendations.
• Oversee health of the PSM ecosystem and drive operating frameworks for success.
• Lead planning and facilitation of PSM LT and All Staff meetings using agile practices.
