Job summary

ZEISS SMT Switzerland in Zurich is seeking a senior engineer to take technical ownership of an externally developed actuator concept and its transfer into the machine.

You will lead an interdisciplinary team of 3–8 engineers across mechanical, electrical, analysis and test domains, coordinating optimization of mechanics, electronics, magnetics and thermal behavior to ensure performance and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a technical field and at least five years of experience in mechatronic systems.
• Hands-on experience with electromagnetic actuators, direct drives, or high-precision motion systems.
• Proficiency in FMEA, root cause analysis, verification, and design-to-cost.
• Ability to read CAD drawings and manage technical documentation.
• English language proficiency at C1 level; German is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of an externally developed actuator concept and its transfer into the machine.
• Provide leadership to an interdisciplinary team of 3–8 in mechanical, electrical, analysis and test engineering.
• Coordinate optimization of mechanics, electronics, magnetics, thermal behavior and dynamics within the actuator system.
• Make technical decisions focusing on performance, manufacturability, scalability and cost of goods.
• Identify and manage technical risks, conduct root cause analyses and implement mitigations.
• Plan and lead technical reviews and verification activities at system, subsystem and component levels.
• Secure development knowledge from external partners, including design rationale and manufacturing knowledge.
• Create and review technical documentation in scientific English (specifications, FMEAs, test plans, test reports, interfaces).
