Job summary

ZEISS SMT Switzerland in Zurich seeks a skilled engineer to take technical ownership of a high-precision electromagnetic actuator, guiding its concept transfer to a fully integrated machine. You’ll lead an interdisciplinary team of 3–8 engineers across mechanical, electrical, analysis and test disciplines, driving performance, manufacturability and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a technical discipline (Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering).
• At least five years of experience in developing or leading complex mechatronic systems.
• Hands-on experience with electromagnetic actuators, direct drives, voice coil motors or high-precision motion systems.
• Proficiency in FMEA, root cause analysis, verification, technical reviews and design-to-cost.
• English at C1 level; German is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of an externally developed actuator concept and transfer it into the machine.
• Provide technical leadership to an interdisciplinary team of 3–8 colleagues in mechanical, electrical, analysis and test engineering.
• Coordinate the optimization of mechanics, electronics, magnetics, thermal behaviour and dynamics within the actuator system.
• Make technical decisions focusing on performance, manufacturability, scalability and cost of goods.
• Identify and manage technical risks, conduct root cause analyses and implement mitigation measures.
• Plan and lead technical reviews and verification activities at system, subsystem and component level.
• Secure development knowledge from external partners including design rationale, verification methods and manufacturing knowledge.
• Create and review technical documentation in scientific English, including specifications, FMEAs, test plans, reports and interface descriptions.
