ETH Zurich | Space is seeking a Flight Software Systems Engineer for space missions in Zurich. The role covers architecture, verification, and operations of embedded flight software across spacecraft and payload systems.

The successful candidate will lead software development, liaison with engineering teams, and contribute to mission concept studies, tests, and operations. Master’s degree and 5+ years in flight software are expected.

Qualifikationen

• Master’s degree in CS, EE, or aerospace engineering.
• 5+ years of professional flight software or embedded software experience.
• Strong C/C++ for resource-constrained embedded targets.
• Experience with RTOS, embedded Linux, or bare-metal.
• Ability to translate mission requirements into software specs and verification strategies.
• Experience integrating software with avionics hardware and ground systems.
• Knowledge of telemetry, telecommand, and onboard data handling.
• Experience with software verification, testing, and CI/CD.

Aufgaben

• Take technical ownership of flight software developments and act as the primary interface to systems engineering, avionics, payload teams, and mission operations.
• Translate mission concepts into spacecraft behaviors and define software architectures and interfaces.
• Allocate hardware-software functions and define software requirements and interfaces.
• Translate requirements into software specifications, IO documents, and verification plans.
• Develop embedded flight software in C and C++ and supporting tools and test scripts.
• Integrate flight software with onboard computers, sensors, actuators, payload electronics, and ground systems.
• Set up and maintain flat-sat flight software testbeds.
• Perform software trade studies on processing capacity, memory, timing, bandwidth, autonomy, reliability, and fault tolerance.
• Develop real-time, autonomous, and GNC-related software functions as needed.
• Establish baselines, configuration control, versioning, build automation, CI, and release management.
• Develop and execute unit tests, integration, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop verification.
• Support software risk management, anomaly investigations, and tech reviews.
• Support spacecraft assembly, testing, in-flight updates, telemetry analysis, and mission operations.
• Contribute to technical reviews and proposals.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
