Job summary

FMC Corporation’s Schaffhausen Technical Center seeks a Crystallization & Particle Science Expert to lead crystallization, solid-state chemistries, and particle science for active ingredient development, scale-up, and manufacturing support.

You will drive process optimization, technology transfer, and knowledge capture across functions to enable reliable production of high-purity materials for FMC’s global operations, collaborating with teams worldwide.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related chemical science.
• PhD in organic, physical-organic, crystallization, solid-state or process chemistry preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant industrial process-chemistry experience with crystallization & particle science.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific leadership in crystallization, solid-state chemistry, and particle science as technical authority for development, optimization, and troubleshooting of active ingredient and intermediate processes.
• Develop and optimize robust crystallization processes to achieve target yield, purity, solid form, and manufacturability.
• Lead solid-state and particle characterization and control strategies, including polymorphism, solvates/hydrates, morphology, and particle-size distribution.
• Lead scale-up, technology transfer, and manufacturing support from lab to production, translating science into process parameters and manufacturing solutions.
• Provide lifecycle scientific stewardship for crystallization- and particle-critical processes, driving continuous improvement and capturing critical knowledge.
• Build capability by developing standards, mentoring colleagues, and promoting science- and data-driven approaches across R&D, Engineering, Analytical, Quality, and Manufacturing.
