Qualifikationen

The Portfolio Analyst role provides fundamental research and quantitative analysis to support a commodity trading desk specialising in energy commodities. The role combines physical market expertise, coding and commercial judgement to inform trading and portfolio decisions.

Key responsibilitiesAnalyse and forecast US natural gas supply, demand, storage, pipeline flows and LNG feedgas demand.Analyse regional power supply and demand, including electricity load, generation mix, renewable output, plant outages and transmission constraints.Assess regional gas pricing and basis relationships, power prices, generation economics and the interaction between gas and power markets.Evaluate weather, infrastructure developments, regulatory changes and supply disruptions and their implications for market balances and portfolio risks.Develop Python and SQL models to automate analysis, forecasting and reporting.Communicate findings to traders and portfolio managers through reports, dashboards and discussions.Translate research into actionable market views and trading recommendations.

Qualifications and experienceBachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline; a relevant master’s degree is desirable.CFA qualification, or progress towards the charter, is advantageous.5–7 years of relevant experience in physical US natural gas and/or power markets, ideally at a utility, energy producer, power generator or physical commodity merchant.Strong understanding of US gas infrastructure, regional supply and demand balances, and organised wholesale power markets.Demonstrated experience applying physical market knowledge to forecasting, commercial analysis and trading decisions.

Technical skillsStrong Python coding skills, including pandas and NumPy, for data analysis, modelling and automation.Proficiency in SQL for extracting, combining and validating large datasets.Experience integrating APIs and building reliable data pipelines for market, weather and operational data.Practical knowledge of statistical modelling, econometrics, time-series forecasting and scenario analysis.Experience modelling gas balances, weather-sensitive demand, power dispatch or regional pricing relationships.Ability to validate models and maintain documented, reproducible code using version control.
