Zusammenfassung

WSL in Birmensdorf invites applications for a PhD student in fire impacts on terrestrial carbon cycling. The project FIRE studies how wildfires alter carbon sources and transit times across landscapes, with fieldwork in caves in the USA and collaboration with partners in Switzerland and the USA.

You will perform geochemical analyses, including radiocarbon measurements, and integrate data with colleagues across disciplines while pursuing a PhD at ETH Zurich.

Qualifikationen

  • Master's degree in environmental or earth sciences.
  • Strong communication and self-motivation.
  • Aptitude for field research and quantitative analysis.
  • Able to travel for several weeks to partner institutions in the USA.
  • Good English writing and speaking skills.

Aufgaben

  • Conduct fieldwork in caves in remote locations of the USA.
  • Perform geochemical analyses on fluid, gaseous and solid samples, including radiocarbon analysis.
  • Collaborate in an interdisciplinary team and contribute to data interpretation.
  • Enroll as a PhD student at ETH Zurich while conducting research at WSL in Birmensdorf.
  • Coordinate research visits to partner institutes in the USA.
