Zusammenfassung

The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL invites applications for a PhD student position focused on Fire Impacts on the Response of terrestrial ecosystems. The project studies how wildfires influence carbon cycling and transit times, with field and lab work in Switzerland and the USA, under the SNSF FIRE project.

The successful candidate holds a Master’s degree in environmental or earth sciences, soil science, or related disciplines, with strong quantitative skills

Qualifikationen

• Master's degree is required.
• Strong communication and self-motivation.
• Aptitude for field research and quantitative skills.
• Willingness to travel to USA partner institutions.

Aufgaben

• Conduct fieldwork in caves in remote locations of the USA.
• Perform geochemical analyses on fluids, gases and solids, including radiocarbon analysis.
• Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team and with partner institutes in the USA.
• Enroll as a PhD student at ETH Zurich and work at WSL in Birmensdorf.
