Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a Maintenance Engineer (Electrical, Instrumentation & Control) for a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment in Switzerland. You will optimize critical systems, minimize downtime, and drive continuous improvement while collaborating with Operations, Automation, and Engineering teams.

The role requires a degree in Electrical/Automation/Process Control engineering, strong GMP experience, and hands-on DeltaV DCS, SAP maintenance, and Syncade MES skills.

Qualifications

• Fluent in German; proficient in English.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Process Control Engineering, or related field (HF, BSc, MSc).
• Proven experience in industrial maintenance, automation, or process manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of GMP-regulated operations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure reliable operation of electrical, instrumentation, automation, and process control systems.
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues to minimize downtime and production interruptions.
• Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
• Lead root cause analysis and implement CAPA solutions.
• Uphold GMP, safety, quality, and operational standards.
• Support DeltaV DCS and automation infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and implement automation improvements with cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to system lifecycle management, upgrades, and validation.
• Provide MES support, ideally Syncade; resolve batch record issues.
• Maintain interfaces between automation platforms, MES, and business systems.

About the Opportunity:

Join our client's team in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment as a Maintenance Engineer (Electrical, Instrumentation & Control). in this role, you will be responsible for optimizing critical systems, minimizing downtime, and driving continuous improvement in a high-impact setting. You’ll collaborate with Operations, Automation, and Engineering teams to ensure the reliability and performance of electrical, instrumentation, automation, and process control systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Fluent in German; proficient in English.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Process Control Engineering, or a related technical field (HF, BSc, or MSc).
• Proven experience in industrial maintenance, automation, or process manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of GMP-regulated operations.

Technical Skills

• Expertise in electrical engineering and industrial instrumentation.
• Hands-on experience with DeltaV Process Control Systems (PLS/DCS).
• SAP maintenance module experience is a plus.
• MES systems experience, preferably Syncade, is advantageous.
• Troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.

Preferred Experience

• Background in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, or highly regulated manufacturing industries.
• Experience in GMP and validated environments.
• Familiarity with commissioning, qualification, and operational readiness activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Technical Support

• Ensure the reliable operation of electrical, instrumentation, automation, and process control systems.
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues to minimize downtime and production interruptions.

• Lead root cause analysis and implement effective solutions (CAPA).
• Uphold GMP, safety, quality, and operational standards in all activities.

Automation & Control Systems

• Support and maintain DeltaV Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and automation infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot, test, and implement automation improvements in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to system lifecycle management, upgrades, and validation.

MES & Digital Systems

• Provide technical support for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), ideally Syncade.
• Resolve issues related to production execution, batch records, and system integration.
• Maintain interfaces between automation platforms, MES, and business systems.

Planning & Coordination

• Review and prioritize maintenance requests based on safety, quality, and operational impact.
• Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize disruption to manufacturing operations.
• Maintain accurate, compliant documentation in SAP.

Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

• Ensure GMP compliance and adherence to internal quality standards.
• Support deviations, change controls, investigations, and risk assessments.
• Identify opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, maintenance processes, and operational efficiency.
• Contribute to reliability engineering, commissioning, and continuous improvement projects.
