Job summary

Reuters is seeking a Lead AI Software Engineer for AIApply in hybrid Switzerland (Zug). You will set technical direction across agent infrastructure, tooling, and production reliability, and provide hands-on leadership across high-priority initiatives.

You will architect AI agent systems atop LLM APIs, design observability, oversee deployment strategies, and mentor a senior team to raise the bar for delivery, safety, and scale.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend and distributed systems experience.
• Experience with AI-native, agentic development practices.
• Ability to mentor senior engineers and influence technical culture.
• Familiarity with LLM APIs, agent frameworks/SDKs, and production observability.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction across high-priority initiatives: core agent infrastructure, new tooling, and production reliability.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership across top priorities; flex across workstreams.
• Architect and build production AI agent systems on LLM APIs, SDKs, and orchestration infra.
• Design agent observability, evaluation, and drift detection to catch regressions early.
• Advance deployment practices: progressive rollout, feature flags, and safe releases.
• Drive RFCs/ADRs and cross-team design reviews to maintain coherence.
• Mentor a senior engineering team and promote AI-native development practices.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to translate strategy into concrete architecture.
