Job purpose: This internship within the Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights Section of OHCHR in Geneva offers a 3-6 month opportunity to contribute to the promotion and protection of economic, social, and cultural rights (ESCR). The intern will provide substantive, organizational, and logistical assistance to the section, supporting its global policy development, advocacy efforts, and partnerships with UN entities, governments, and civil society. This role is crucial for advancing the indivisibility of human rights and supporting the High Commissioner's mandate on ESCR, contributing to the UN's overall human rights objectives.
Responsibilities: Provide substantive, organizational, and logistical assistance to the Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights Section. Conduct research and analysis to support the development of OHCHR's policy positions on economic, social, and cultural rights (ESCR). Assist in fulfilling mandates from the General Assembly and Human Rights Council related to ESCR. Support the High Commissioner's advocacy efforts on ESCR. Facilitate collaboration and provide support to UN human rights mechanisms. Contribute to strengthening partnerships with UN entities, cities, local governments, national human rights institutions, and civil society to promote ESCR.
Education: Candidates must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), OR be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
