Philip Morris International is offering an Open Innovation Internship in Switzerland to support prototyping and evaluation of next‑gen smoke‑free concepts. You will work on data analytics, embedded programming and evaluation of emerging electronic technologies to inform early product concepts.

We seek a curious, technically strong student enrolled in a Master's or PhD program, with strong Python skills, ML framework experience, and knowledge of embedded platforms.

• Strong Python skills with scikit-learn, pandas and NumPy.
• Familiar with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Knowledge of embedded programming including RTOS, Git, I2C, SPI and STM32.
• Able to develop data analytics pipelines and extract insights.

About The Team

You will join the Open Innovation team, which leverages external innovation, emerging technologies and solutions to address internal challenges and support next-generation smoke-free products. The team connects PMI with external partners and ensures efficient, secure collaboration.

Internship Roles & Objectives

As an Open Innovation Intern, you will support the prototyping, testing and technical evaluation of emerging electronic technologies for early-stage smoke-free product concepts. Using data analytics, data processing and embedded programming, you will assess technologies against proof-of-feasibility criteria. You will work in a dynamic environment focused on experimentation, rapid iteration and real-world impact, requiring independence, critical thinking, problem-solving and effective stakeholder communication.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for a curious, creative and technically strong student who:

• Is enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in Computer Science, Data Science, Electronics, Physics, Engineering or a related field.
• Available from February 2027 to August 2027.
• Has strong Python skills and experience with scikit-learn, pandas and NumPy.
• Is familiar with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Has knowledge of embedded programming, including RTOS, Git, I2C, SPI and STM32.
• Can evaluate electronic components using datasheets, evaluation boards and structured testing.
• Can develop data analytics pipelines and generate insights using statistical and machine learning methods.
• Has a passion for learning, experimentation and problem-solving.
• Demonstrates independence, critical thinking and the ability to solve complex challenges.
• Communicates effectively and collaborates with internal and external teams to prototype and validate solutions supporting the product roadmap.
