Job summary

Lonza in Basel seeks an Associate Director, Plant Utilities to provide global technical leadership for reliable plant utility infrastructure. The role covers thermal systems, cooling, gases, water, wastewater and energy recovery, spanning from incoming supply to discharge.

You will guide investment prioritization and CAPEX projects while coordinating with Clean Utilities, HVAC, Electrical and Asset Management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Process Engineering or related discipline.
• Energy management certification is an asset.
• Experience in Plant utility design, commissioning and operational support in complex manufacturing environments.
• CAPEX delivery, infrastructure planning, reliability and lifecycle-cost improvement experience.
• Demonstrated senior technical leadership and influence across sites and multidisciplinary teams without line authority.
• Broad technical expertise across Plant Utilities (Black Utilities), including thermal systems, central cooling, technical gases and vacuum, non-compendial water, wastewater, heat and energy recovery systems, and utility monitoring.
• Apply relevant engineering standards, codes and regulatory requirements for plant utility infrastructure, including EN, ISO, SIA and ASHRAE standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and own global Plant Utilities standards, specifications and reference designs, defining sizing, capacity margins, resilience and lifecycle cost.
• Provide global technical leadership for Plant Utilities, including thermal systems, cooling, gases, water and energy recovery from supply to discharge.
• Define and maintain clear technical system boundaries and interfaces with other engineering disciplines; support deviations and escalate risks.
• Lead Plant Utilities technical assurance for CAPEX projects and infrastructure investments, evaluating lifecycle-efficient options.
• Define engineering requirements for commissioning, performance testing and handover of Plant Utilities.
• Support sites in developing utility master plans and renewal strategies with Site Engineering and Asset Management.
• Develop reliability and lifecycle-management principles with Asset Management; assist with root-cause investigations.
• Define wastewater engineering requirements and translate environmental discharge criteria into design criteria.
• Provide technical requirements for equipment standardization, supplier evaluation, metering and benchmarking.
• Lead global Plant Utilities network and capability development, promoting standardization and cross-site adoption.
