Lever, Inc. in Switzerland is seeking a General Counsel to lead global legal and compliance for a fast-growing technology business.

The role reports to the COO and shapes governance, risk, and regulatory posture across EMEA and the Americas, with a hands-on approach to contracts, IP, and open-source licensing. The ideal candidate has substantial senior in-house experience in tech, strong global leadership, and English fluency, with readiness for cross-border operations and periodic international

Qualifications

• Active license to practice in an EMEA or Americas jurisdiction.
• Senior in-house experience within a global technology or software business.
• Experience leading distributed legal teams across regions/time zones.
• Proven ability to hire, coach, and drive performance.
• Experience building or scaling an in-house function with internal/external split.
• Strong negotiating experience on enterprise software, cloud services, and related tech agreements.
• Deep knowledge of open-source licensing and communities.
• Public-company governance experience or IPO readiness is a plus.
• Excellent English drafting and executive communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead global Legal and Compliance across EMEA and the Americas.
• Build distributed leadership by hiring and developing managers and setting objectives.
• Establish an operating cadence for legal work and risk reporting.
• Prepare for future public-market governance with policies and controls in partnership with Finance.
• Advise executives and the Board on significant legal and regulatory matters.
• Own the commercial contracting framework and negotiations.
• Lead IP and open-source licensing strategy across licensing, trademarks, and software distribution.
• Oversee global compliance in data protection, export controls, anti-bribery, and AI regulation.
• Manage litigation, disputes, and external counsel network.
• Provide legal guidance on M&A, partnerships, and strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, security, and finance to translate legal considerations into business decisions.
