Job summary

NIL Technology is seeking an Embedded Electronics Engineer to design and bring up electronics for optical modules, including MIPI camera evaluation boards and sensor tuning. You will develop firmware and test tools, and support demonstrator builds in a collaborative, cross‑disciplinary team based near Lake Zürich in Seehallen Horgen.

You will work closely with optics, mechanics and process engineers to deliver compact, high‑performance electronics for next‑generation nano‑optics demonstrators

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years as electronics or embedded hardware development engineer, ideally with camera, imaging or sensor products.
  • MSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Microengineering, or a related field.
  • Hands‑on PCB design experience from schematic to layout and bring‑up (e.g. Altium Designer), including high‑speed and impedance‑controlled design.
  • Experience with MIPI CSI‑2 / D‑PHY camera interfaces and with image sensor bring‑up and tuning.
  • Embedded firmware development in C/C++ on microcontrollers (e.g. ARM Cortex‑M); experience with embedded Linux, FPGAs or I²C/SPI sensor drivers is a plus.
  • Confident in the lab with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, soldering and rework; Python for test automation and data analysis.
  • Interest in optics and imaging; familiarity with image quality metrics (e.g. MTF, SNR) is a plus.
  • Pragmatic, hands‑on mindset with the ability to build prototypes quickly and to work across optics, mechanics and process teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own the electronic part of our optical modules: define electrical architecture, select components, create schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Design, bring up and debug evaluation and interface boards for MIPI CSI‑2 image sensors and camera modules, enabling fast characterization of optics.
  • Configure and tune image sensors and set up test benches to evaluate image quality with the design team.
  • Develop embedded firmware that controls sensors, illumination and data acquisition; host‑side tools in Python or C/C++ for test automation.
  • Bring electronics know‑how into demonstrator and prototype builds: from board assembly to system integration and live demos.
  • Work with PCB manufacturers, assembly houses and sensor vendors, supporting module integrators with electrical specifications, test concepts and failure analysis.

Job description

Embedded Electronics Engineer

Bringing electronics to wafer-level optics — together

Do you enjoy turning schematics into working hardware — and seeing your boards bring new optical technologies to life?

As our new Embedded Electronics Engineer, you will add dedicated electronics expertise to our Modules team. You will design the electronics of our optical camera and sensing modules, build evaluation boards for MIPI cameras, tune image sensors, and develop the firmware that makes our demonstrators and prototypes work. This is a unique opportunity to shape the electronics competence of a fast‑moving, multidisciplinary team at the forefront of nano- and micro‑optics innovation.

Based in our modern office and cleanroom facilities in Seehallen Horgen, right next to Lake Zürich, you will join an experienced, collaborative team of optics, mechanics and process engineers dedicated to building next‑generation optical modules and demonstrators.

You will be part of an ambitious company where we win together. Team spirit and mutual success are key components in our everyday work culture.

Tasks and responsibilities

Module Electronics Design

Own the electronic part of our optical modules: define the electrical architecture, select components, and create schematics and PCB layouts, including flex and rigid‑flex designs. Work closely with optical and mechanical engineers to fit the electronics into compact module form factors.

MIPI Camera Evaluation Boards

Design, bring up and debug evaluation and interface boards for MIPI CSI‑2 image sensors and camera modules, enabling fast characterization of our optics. Take care of high‑speed signal integrity, power supply and clocking.

Sensor Tuning and Characterization

Configure and tune image sensors (register settings, exposure, gain, timing and ISP parameters) and set up test benches to evaluate the image quality of our optics together with the optical design team.

Firmware Development

Develop embedded firmware that controls sensors, illumination and data acquisition, as well as host‑side tools in Python or C/C++ for test automation and data capture.

Demonstrator and Prototype Builds

Bring electronics know‑how into our demonstrator and prototype builds: from board assembly and bring‑up to system integration, debugging and live demos for customers and trade shows.

Supplier and Partner Collaboration

Work with PCB manufacturers, assembly houses and sensor vendors, and support our module integrators with electrical specifications, test concepts and failure analysis.
