Job summary

Menhir Photonics, based near Zurich, Switzerland, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to drive mechanical developments and processes. You will lead projects and design optomechanical sub-assemblies using SolidWorks, with emphasis on tolerances and manufacturing feasibility.

You will work closely with suppliers and workshops, ensure ISO9001 quality adherence, and contribute to mass production readiness while applying GD&T principles in cleanroom assembly environments.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years experience in a similar role.
• HF/FH/Bachelor or Master in Mechanical or Optomechanical Engineering.
• Experience with CAD (SolidWorks) and PDM (3DExperience).
• Knowledge of materials used in optical modules.
• Experience with bonding technologies (epoxies/UV-curables).
• Strong GD&T and mechanical metrology knowledge.
• Fluent English and German.

Responsibilities

Based in Zurich, Switzerland, our team has strong expertise in the development and production of ultrafast lasers for the markets of aerospace, telecom, and metrology. For our ambitious business scale-up we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the team and project managers with mechanical developments and processes.

Your profile

Your primary duties and responsibilities:

• Leading technical projects
• Design CAD sub-assemblies and interfaces to larger CAD assemblies for optomechanical components and optoelectronic subsystems
• Perform rigorous tolerance analyses to ensure mechanical feasibility of the designs
• Create detailed, tolerance 2D drawings with FAI (First Article Inspection) for optical & mechanical components based on design for manufacturing considering supplier’s fabrication methods and metrology capabilities
• Evaluate and select materials capable of achieving high-quality module performance while suitable for mass production
• Close collaboration with external mechanical workshops and suppliers
• Support high quality standards and practices according to ISO9001

Experience & Education

Your background:

• 3-5 years experience in a similar role
• One of the following degrees: Höhere Fachschule (HF), Fachhochschule (FH), Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical or Optomechanical Engineering
• Experience with CAD (SolidWorks) and PDM (3DExperience) software
• Knowledge of mechanical and thermal properties of glass, plastic, metal, and electrical component materials commonly used in optical modules
• Experience with bonding technologies, specifically with adhesive processes, epoxies, and UV-curable adhesives
• Knowledge in the field of product development and the development of manufacturing processes is advantageous
• Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and mechanical metrology
• Understanding the basic principles of optics, opto-mechanics and opto-electronics assembly in cleanroom conditions
• Fluent English and German are required

Conditions

• The position is 80% to 100% (34-42 hours/week)
• One day of home office per week is possible
• The workplace is located at our headquarters near Zurich, Switzerland in Dübendorf
• The preferred starting date is as soon as possible
