The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Geneva EO seeks a Coordination and Support Officer to assist the Director General's Special Advisor, coordinating travel, policy, and management tasks. The role includes preparing remarks, travel documents, and liaising with Headquarters, Regions and Country Offices to advance DG priorities.
Preferred is a Master’s in a relevant field with 5+ years’ experience; a related University Degree with 7+ years is also acceptable.
Organizational context: The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency focused on promoting humane and orderly migration. The Executive Office (EO) serves as IOM's central hub for leadership, coordination, and strategic direction, supporting the Director General and Leadership Team in guiding the organization's mandate and global mission.
Job purpose: The Coordination and Support Officer will provide crucial support to the Director General's Special Advisor, focusing on the preparation and coordination of matters related to the DG's travel, policy, and management functions. This role is integral to ensuring the effective execution of the DG's responsibilities, including managing external engagements, facilitating workflow, and supporting decision-making processes. The officer will act as a key liaison between the DG's office and various IOM departments and offices, ensuring timely follow-up on delegated tasks and contributing to the consistent application of Executive Office policies and processes.
Responsibilities: Provide direct support to the DG's Special Advisor in managing the DG's workflow and external engagements. Coordinate and facilitate the preparation of materials for the DG's external activities, including remarks, talking points, and travel documents. Liaise with Headquarters, Regional, and Country Offices to advance DG requests and priorities. Support the implementation of Executive Office policies and processes. Accompany the DG on engagements, taking notes and following up on action points. Assist in planning and coordinating special projects and events aligned with DG priorities. Contribute to developing guidance for staff on Executive Office procedures. Perform other assigned duties.
Education: A Master's degree in Political Science, Social Science, Law, International Relations, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, with five years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a University Degree in a related field with seven years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Work experience: Requires five years of relevant professional experience with a Master's degree, or seven years of relevant professional experience with a University Degree in fields such as Political Science, Social Science, Law, International Relations, Public Relations, or Journalism.
Skills: Sound knowledge of migration issues; knowledge of IOM institutions is an advantage. Proven ability to collaborate with staff and stakeholders. Excellent communication and writing skills. Ability to analyze complex problems and propose solutions. Excellent organizational skills (digital and physical).
