The International Trade Centre (ITC) aims to transform trade and change lives by enabling trade-led economic development, particularly in the Global South. This role is situated within the ITC Office for Africa (OA), part of the Division of Country Programmes (DCP), which leads ITC's engagement across the continent. OA coordinates technical assistance, analyzes regional intelligence, manages projects, builds partnerships, mobilizes resources, and represents ITC.
The Associate Programme Officer will provide essential support to Programme Managers and the Chief of the Office for Africa in executing ITC's mandate. This involves conducting research, analyzing data, and presenting findings to inform programme operations. The role contributes to the design and implementation of technical assistance projects across Africa, including specific initiatives in Guinea and Botswana focused on private sector development, job creation, and value chain enhancement. The position requires supporting project deliverables, facilitating meetings, engaging in outreach activities, participating in field missions, and coordinating budget-related activities to ensure effective programme delivery and alignment with donor requirements.
The Associate Programme Officer will conduct basic research on programme operations, collecting and analyzing data from various sources. They will assist in consulting assignments by facilitating workshops and developing action plans for clients. A key duty involves contributing to the drafting and consolidation of project deliverables, such as annual implementation reports and technical documents, ensuring accuracy and donor compliance. The role also provides administrative and substantive support for meetings and conferences, including agenda preparation and logistics. Furthermore, the officer will undertake outreach activities, support training workshops, participate in field missions for data collection, and coordinate budget-related activities for programme and project preparation, submissions, and reporting.
An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, development studies, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be considered.
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management is required. This experience requirement increases to four years for candidates with an advanced degree. Experience working on projects supporting SMEs and trade in Sub-Saharan Africa for at least one year is desirable.
