UN Atlas seeks an experienced Arabic editor to revise the Rotterdam Convention website translation for the BRS Secretariat. You will ensure terminology aligns with UN and UNEP standards and annotate mistranslations with track changes.

Work arrangement Remote / Home-based
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) leads global environmental efforts, promoting sustainable development within the UN system. The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions (BRS) works to protect human health and the environment from hazardous chemicals and wastes. This role supports the BRS Secretariat's clearing-house mechanism for information exchange.
This role serves to review and revise the automatic Arabic translation of the Rotterdam Convention website, ensuring accuracy and adherence to official terminology. The contractor will identify and correct translation errors, particularly those impacting legal, scientific, and technical meanings, and enhance the language model. The ultimate goal is to produce a high-quality, revised Arabic version of the website content, maintaining consistency with UN and UNEP standards and official convention texts, thereby supporting the BRS Secretariat's mandate for information exchange.
The primary responsibility is to edit the Arabic translation of the Rotterdam Convention website, provided as an MS Word document with track changes. This involves reviewing approximately 4,957 words of automatically translated Arabic content against the original English webpages. The contractor must ensure the revised translation accurately reflects official Rotterdam Convention terminology, as found in the Convention Text and reports. Focus will be on correcting mistranslations that affect meaning, legal, scientific, or technical terms, while maintaining UN and UNEP terminology and vocabulary consistency. Comments should be added to identify specific mistranslations from the English source.
A minimum of five years of experience in Arabic editing within the UN or similar intergovernmental organizations is required.
