Axpo Baden in Switzerland is seeking a backend/platform engineer to design and operate platform services for LLM routing, model access, and identity controls, ensuring auditable, compliant usage.

You will build secure deployment paths from repo to running apps, provide SDKs and documentation for product teams, and work with security and cloud teams to evolve agent-to-agent capabilities while keeping governance and cost in check.

What you will do:

• Develop and operate platform services for LLM routing, model access, MCP tool registration, identity and permissions, rate limits, team budgets, tracing and auditability.
• Build and improve the deployment path from repository to running, SSO-protected application, including secrets handling, safe defaults and administration capabilities for non-technical users.
• Engineer secure execution environments: isolated runtimes, code analysis, vulnerability checks, restricted egress and least-privilege execution.
• Create reusable APIs, SDKs, templates and documentation that make it easy for product teams to build and operate AI-assisted applications responsibly.
• Contribute to the assessment of open-weight models and European inference providers, and establish observability and evaluation patterns for AI systems – cost, latency, quality, reliability and policy compliance.
• Work closely with product, security, cloud and business teams: support platform users, resolve issues pragmatically, turn recurring feedback into improvements, and help shape the evolution of agent-to-agent capabilities and the platform roadmap.

What you bring & who you are:

Several years of experience building and operating production-grade backend, platform or infrastructure systems – combining hands-on engineering with a strong sense of operational responsibility, from idea through implementation to production.

• Strong Python and API engineering skills, plus practical experience with containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure and monitoring.
• Experience with identity and access management, secrets, network controls, secure software delivery and platform reliability.
• Genuine interest in AI models and their governance – you've built something with models, understand where they fail, how behaviour can be evaluated and how usage should be controlled.
• You make sound engineering trade-offs, communicate them clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, and bring a product mindset: you care whether teams can successfully use what you build. Fluent English; German is useful but not required.
• Ideally, you bring experience with MCP, A2A, agent frameworks or evaluation tooling, Django and Azure (or comparable frameworks and clouds), open-weight models such as vLLM, or work in regulated, security-sensitive environments – even if you don't tick every box, we look forward to your application.
