Overview

Title: Director, Operational Accounting Technology Systems

Responsibilities

The Director, as the technology owner, will be responsible for the strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of the Operational Accounting Technologies team with a focus on modernization across the portfolio. They will build and manage foundational components for operations using modern technology that leverage current processes and increase velocity while reducing cost/effort. The Director’s role includes developing and implementing the appropriate technology strategy, which mitigates operational risk and delivers value, in collaboration with business stakeholders and regional Technology teams. This individual will ensure business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing internal standards, policies and procedures as well as regulations in Canada (IIROC, OSC), the U.S. (SEC, FRB NY, NY DFS) and abroad (UK FCA, Singapore MAS etc.).

The Director will actively pursue increasing business value through the delivery of cost - effective vendor - hosted and internal solutions and the effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day to day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, and conduct risk. This includes but is not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Business Outsourcing Framework and Guidelines for Business Conduct. It also includes supporting and responding to internal/external Audit, Third - Party Risk, Privacy Office and Regulatory reviews and findings.

Qualifications

  • Engineering/Development or strong technical background is required
  • Experience implementing medium and large solutions
  • Experienced with vendor communication and management
  • 10+ years of IT and business/industry work experience.
  • Proficiency in managing Oracle ERP systems (Peoplesoft, ERP Cloud) with emphasis on Operational modules of AP,FA,Projects modules
  • Excellent business and technical knowledge and experience (understanding of vision, financial objectives/how business functions and core processes interact/the strategic importance of projects, how they relate to Scotiabank's goals, how projects interact/impact of change and/or delays in projects).
  • Process knowledge and experience in scheduling, resource allocation, risk management and systems design.
  • Critical thinking, continuous improvement, and transformation in leading the group delivering high performance while aligning to group and Bank’s strategic direction.
  • Strong knowledge of application implementation and testing best practices and methodologies
  • Ability to write functional requirements, use cases, and other analysis/design artifacts effectively (storyboards, screen prototypes, etc.)
  • Experience with user interface and design
  • Conceptual knowledge of data modeling and database design
  • Experience with testing execution
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-directed - works effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively work on multiple tasks
  • Well organized, dependable, punctual, strong work ethic
