Job summary

YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking a Mentor to join our MAGS team. The Mentor will empower youth by building trusting relationships and providing guidance and positive alternatives to gang involvement.

The successful candidate will be seconded to Edmonton Police Service (EPS) to engage with youth referred to the program, meeting youth in custody and in the community. This is a full-time role (40 hrs/week) with benefits, four-day work week (Mon-Thu, 7:30am–4:30pm) based out of The Wîcêhtowin

Qualifications

• Experience working with youth involved in the criminal justice system, gangs, or violence.
• Ability to assist participants with challenges related to addictions, mental health, and overall well-being.
• Strong listening and communication skills, verbal and written.
• Ability to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check and Child Intervention Check.
• Enhanced Security Clearance through Edmonton Police Service.
• A valid Alberta Driver's License with access to a reliable motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with youth through regular mentoring sessions in custody and community settings.
• Submit daily updates to the EPS Program Coordinator outlining plans, youth interactions, progress, successes, and concerns.
• Maintain accurate and timely case documentation, including daily case notes, reports, and weekly highlights.
• Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary meetings to support coordinated service delivery for youth.
• Deliver restorative, recreational, and individualized programming, including outdoor education and group activities.
• Collaborate with agency staff and leadership to support program development and service improvement.
