Position Overview

Da-Lee Group is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious, and motivated Yard Waste Technician to join our growing team. This hands-on role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced industrial environment and take pride in performing meaningful work that supports environmental sustainability and responsible waste management.

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services, the Yard Waste Technician is responsible for the safe handling, processing, packaging, and movement of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials. The successful candidate will contribute to the efficient operation of the facility while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, quality, and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process containerized chemical waste in accordance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collect, label, and document samples from incoming waste streams following established procedures.
  • Safely package, sort, segregate, and unpack hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • Assist with waste consolidation, material handling, and inventory management activities.
  • Load, unload, and move materials throughout the facility using appropriate equipment and handling techniques.
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts, loaders, excavators, shredders, and power tools. Training and certification will be provided as required.
  • Inspect containers, equipment, and work areas to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation related to waste processing and handling activities.
  • Perform general labour duties, including housekeeping, yard maintenance, and facility support tasks.
  • Support plant operations and special projects as assigned by management.

  • Participate actively in safety meetings, toolbox talks, training sessions, inspections, and hazard assessments.
  • Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, respirators, and other protective equipment as required.
  • Report hazards, incidents, near misses, spills, and unsafe work conditions immediately.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified.
  • Follow proper lifting techniques and safe material handling practices.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment through effective housekeeping practices.
  • Demonstrate environmental responsibility through the proper handling, storage, and disposal of materials.
  • Work safely around chemicals, heavy equipment, moving machinery, and industrial processes.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Skills & Experience

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn new processes, equipment, and procedures.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or additional hours when operational requirements demand.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-4 years experience in waste management, environmental services, chemical processing, manufacturing, construction, industrial labour, or a related field.
  • Experience handling hazardous materials or working with chemicals.
  • Forklift certification and/or experience operating industrial equipment.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, TDG, or other industry-related safety programs is considered an asset.
Work Environment

This position requires working both indoors and outdoors in a challenging industrial environment. Employees may be exposed to:

  • Changing weather conditions and seasonal temperatures.
  • Dust, noise, odours, and industrial equipment.
  • Hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials.
  • Physically demanding tasks and extended periods of standing and walking.
  • Heavy equipment and moving machinery.

Successful candidates must be comfortable working in a safety-sensitive workplace and following established procedures at all times.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Position Type: Full-Time
  • Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. (four 10-hour shifts)
  • Compensation: $24.00 per hour
