Job summary

GFL Environmental Hamilton is seeking a flexible team member to assist in various facility tasks and meet customer needs. The role reports to the Supervisor and supports completing assigned operating duties during a 2 PM–10 PM shift.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading trucks with front-end loaders and backhoes, handling drums and totes, operating a forklift, maintaining processing records, housekeeping, and participating in safety meetings.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform labor-intensive duties, including heavy lifting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Must communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Process containerized waste such as drums and totes, including emptying and cutting containers.
  • Maintain accurate processing records for assigned work areas.
  • Operate a forklift and other material handling equipment.
  • Perform general housekeeping and ensure safe, organized work areas.
  • Attend safety meetings and report safety incidents or equipment malfunctions.

Job description

GFL Environmental Hamilton is looking for someone with flexibility and the right attitude to perform various tasks within the facility to meet the needs of our customers.

Reporting to the Supervisor, the position is accountable for providing assistance in the completion of various operating assignments.

Shift time: 2 PM - 10 PM

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process of solid materials, solidification of liquids and slurries, offload and load trucks using front-end loader and back hoes
  • Process containerized waste such as drums, pails and totes by emptying, bulking, scraping and cutting containers
  • Maintain accurate and legible processing records as per your assigned work area (i.e drums, or batteries)
  • Operate a forklift to move materials within the facility and to perform other warehousing type tasks
  • Operate a floor sweeper to assist with general housekeeping and cleaning
  • Perform general housekeeping on a daily basis, including segregation and proper storage of containers, snow removal, cleaning and warehouse organization
  • Attend and participate in safety meetings and tool talks
  • Report all safety incidents, equipment malfunction or any substandard performance to supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Key Competencies:

  • Previous knowledge of waste management operations is preferred
  • Must be able to perform labor intensive duties (i.e heavy lifting is required)
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have previous equipment experience

Working Conditions

You must be able to stand for long periods of time
You may be exposed to environmental conditions such as hot, cold, dirt, dust, wet or noise
You must be able to work independently and as part of a larger team environment
You must be able to communicate in English both verbally and electronically

Work Schedule:

This position will operate in an industrial setting that operates 5 days per week. You may be required to work additional hours and/or outside of regular hours to meet customer requirements.

This is a safety sensitive position. Offers of employment are conditional upon the successful completion of a drug and alcohol test.
