Job summary

Doidge Building Centres Ltd. is seeking a Yard Manager to oversee yard and warehouse operations, ensuring efficient product flow, safety, and team performance. You will supervise yard associates, load builders, and truck drivers, delegating tasks and monitoring maintenance and repairs.

The role requires strong communication, time management, and leadership abilities. The position supports the branch manager in hiring, coaching, and developing staff, with a focus on safety and operational

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Experience in building and construction industry preferred.
• Forklift certified training an asset.
• First Aid certification an asset.

Responsibilities

• Oversee yard and warehouse operations, delegating tasks and managing time and resources.
• Lead yard associates, load builders and truck drivers; set daily objectives.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed and maintain maintenance records.
• Coordinate product flow, storage, and loading of vehicles; monitor equipment and repairs.
• Support recruitment needs with the branch manager and develop staff.
• Contribute to health and safety initiatives and staff training.

Job description

Position Summary:

The Yard Manager is to oversee the yard and warehouse operations through effective delegation and management of work, employees, time, and resources. This also includes overseeing the opening and closing procedures in the yard, in and outflow of product for the business, and ensuring compliance with all safety procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities, but not limited to:

• Manages team consisting of yard associates, load builders, and truck drivers
• Clearly communicates all objectives and expectations to team members daily
• Delegates tasks, initiatives, and follows up to ensure completion
• Provides exceptional customer service
• Works with the branch manager to identify hiring needs, recruit new team members as needed
• Develops and monitors preventative maintenance programs
• Plans the delivery of incoming products, ensures proper and safe handling and storage of inventory products to minimize any damage
• Organizes the delivery of products; identifies the right vehicle and ensures that the vehicles are fully and securely loaded
• Continually monitors the condition of equipment, schedules, and approves repairs, maintains records of maintenance
• Participates in the Health & Safety program and ensures that all staff members follow correct actions

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience preferred
• Experience in building and construction industry preferred
• Exemplary interpersonal skills; written and verbal communication skills
• Effective time management and problem-solving skills
• Basic math skills
• Ability to set priorities and deliver results within deadlines
• Experience hiring, assessing, coaching, counseling, and developing associates an asset
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Forklift certified training an asset
• First Aid certification an asset
