What will you be doing?

As a Workshop Technician, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently disassemble, thoroughly inspect, and precisely machine and rebuild a large variety of diesel engine components according to Wärtsilä’s established guidelines and safety protocols.

This position reports to the Workshop Manager.

Candidates are expected to display a high level of critical thinking and reasoning skills, identify as high performers, as well as being self-motivating.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the execution of workshop service tasks, such as: overhauls, reconditioning, modification, cleaning, and machining of reciprocating engine components.
  • Liaise closely with Team Leader and Senior Workshop Technician to ensure work scopes are kept within budget and specified delivery schedule.
  • Gather technical information from TKB by accessing technical bulletins and operational / overhaul instruction from product manual.
  • Access parts catalogue to find out parts required that needs to be ordered to support overhauling or repair of the component / equipment.
  • Ensure that all activities in the workshop and on-site are carried out in accordance with the site safety rules and in compliance with the Company's Health and Safety standard ISO 4500112018.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out to ISO 900112015 standard.
  • Be an integral part of the workshop team. Strive to achieve common goals and customer deadlines, whereby working overtime hours may be required.
  • Adopt a pleasant, adaptable attitude towards any "ad-hoc" duties that may be required.
  • Always carry out all tasks in such a way as to ensure maximum (internal and external) satisfaction to the extent that this is within the employee's control.
  • Carry out proactive preventative maintenance tasks on plant equipment.
  • Undergo appropriate training to gain competencies with heavy lifting equipment; Forklift, overhead gantry cranes, component turning equipment.

Main Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of job-related experience with marine diesel and/or dual fuel engines
  • Experience within a Mechanical/Maritime environment organization with an international scope is seen as an advantage.
  • Good communication skills with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive individual who is not afraid to get stuck in.
  • Good time management and organizational skills - able to effectively manage a dynamic workload.
  • Able work effectively and efficiently independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience in handling tools like valve grinding machine, seat cutting machines, honing machine etc is seen as an advantage.
  • Willingness to work different shifts.

For applicants that reside in BC, the hourly salary wage range is $27.00 CAD - $33.00 CAD.

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, individual skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration of internal equity.

Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
