Job summary

The City of Hamilton invites applicants for a Winter Operator (Roads) seasonal role within the Transportation Division. You will operate snow removal equipment, perform inspections, and contribute to road maintenance, sidewalk clearing and salting operations during winter conditions.

Candidates must handle demanding weather, work overtime when required, and maintain safety and regulatory compliance while delivering reliable service to residents.

Qualifications

• Previous operator experience related to roadway snow operations.
• Experience in winter and summer road maintenance is an asset.
• Ability to operate large vehicles like snow plows and sanders safely.
• Must understand and follow detailed procedures and logs.
• Must pass driving evaluation and interview.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment for snow removal, salting and plowing.
• Perform pre-trip inspections and complete required forms.
• Interact courteously with the public and agencies.
• Shovel, plow, sand and perform related manual labour as needed.
• Work across Transportation Operations & Maintenance locations.
• Follow Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Skills

Snow plowing experience

Able to operate snow removal equipment

Ability to lift 23–45 kg

Shift work and on-call availability

Good interpersonal skills

Basic documentation skills

Knowledge of road maintenance basics

Ability to follow procedures

Ability to work in adverse conditions

Education

OSSD or equivalent
